Beloved Bead Tree

The original, beloved Bead Tree was removed from Tulane’s Uptown campus on May 14.

The nearly 30-year-old Nuttall Oak tree was struck by lightning several years ago, which weakened its root system. The lightning strike also left the tree vulnerable to termites, which destroyed 10 feet of its trunk. An emergency removal was conducted as the tree was at risk of falling. But, no worries, a replacement 20-foot-tall Nuttall Oak tree will be planted in exactly the same spot this fall or winter.
