The School of Science and Engineering will receive $500,000 as part of a new consortium dedicated to educating quantum engineers. The funding will train a new generation of these engineers in advanced computing and communications technologies. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Energy’s RENEW Initiative, which awarded a total of $4.8 million in grants to the seven universities in the consortium.

Brian Summa, assistant professor of computer science, was awarded an Early Career Award from the U.S. Department of Energy to examine how to decrease data size from supercomputers to make the data more accessible and easier to analyze. Summa is one of 83 researchers from across the country to receive the award.

Nick Mattei, assistant professor of computer science, is part of a National Science Foundation study to design more equitable algorithm recommender systems for all types of products and services.
